Description
Remington New Model Army Revolver. Cal. 44. Among the most popular side arms of the Civil War, this government inspected Army revolver is solid, and crisp, and is completely -as found- with rich undisturbed age patina. Not messed with in modern times. . It is 100% original, 100% complete, and mechanically perfect. Metal surfaces are deep brown with light surface scale. This could be removed, but I prefer it untouched. The Remington was far superior to the Colt in terms of practical design, as the trooper could install a pre-loaded fresh cylinder without the need for tools. In fact he could do so on horseback. The Colt required a mallet and drift to remove the cylinder. The Remington could have cylinders swapped out in seconds by a trooper on horseback. It has a solid frame with a top strap the same as modern service revolvers. It took Colt until 1872 to adopt that feature. Metal markings are legible mixed with the brown patina. Grips aexceptional, stellar – with crisp inspectors cartouche. Overall brown patina. Good solid cavalry weapon. ..................................................
