Description
Fine condition Confederate wood canteen and strap carved with capture information by the Ohio officer that brought it home. He was Capt. Simon Waterstone 38th Ohio. A large 15 inch tall portrait of him ca 1900 is included. Has copper spout and original Confederate linen sling. Two strap brackets are zinc replacements, believed to have been added by the Yankee captor. I recall when this surfaced at the family estate auction in NW Ohio along with a CSA buckle that the auctioneer called a Cub Scouts of America buckle. Comes with a pile of archives research relating to the yankee officer who brought it home.
