Antique Grand Scaled PIRANESI Etching, 17th century, one of a pair in this auction, inscription to lower left reads ‘Cavalier Piranesi del e inc’, inscriptions in Latin and Italian, label to reverse reads ‘Gander & White’, subject figures standing amongst ruins, measures 34 1/8 x 43 1/4 inches, black wooden frame, some losses to frame professionally framed and double matted in white, not examined out of frame. One of a pair available in this auction. Property of Greenwich, Connecticut Estate Giovanni Battista Piranesi was an Italian Classical archaeologist, architect, and artist, famous for his etchings of Rome and of fictitious and atmospheric "prisons".
