Thomas Webster (British, 1800-1886), First Steps

oil on canvas (lined), signed at lower right, presented in a later Rococo style gilt wood frame.
Stretcher size 12 x 10 in.; Frame dimensions 18 x 16 in.
A talented genre painter, Thomas Webster was elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1846. Webster moved to Kent in 1856, where he became a founder and one of the leading figures in the Cranbrook Colony of Art.
