Description

A wooden clothes washer dating to the 1890s/1900s made by the Edwards Mfg Co. of Middletown, IN. This style of clothes washer could be purchased for under $2 back when it was available for sale. Washer features a central scrubber rotating on a pivot point in a galvanized tub. Scrubber still rotates easily. Galvanized tub has a hole near the bottom. Drain hole plug and spout are absent. Wood body and legs display usual wear and the side panels on one side show some separation. Both side panels are stenciled "Edwards/Mfg Co./Middletown IND" with the stenciling being faded from age. A neat example of clothes washing technology near the end of the 19th century. See photos. Measures 23.25"W x 32.25"L x 38.5"H.
