Twelve solid brass molds created to order by Magna-Art Industries, Inc. in 1999 for use in the production of a set of "R. Crumb Kitchen Kut-Outs" offered by Kitchen Sink in 2001. The molds are in excellent condition. Accompanying the lot is a set of the finished "Kitchen Kut-Out" magnets (the neck of the "Sid Spoon" magnet is repaired). This set of molds is the only one produced. Included with the set is a copy of the project notes, 1995-1999.

One-of-a-kind set of R. Crumb "Kitchen Kut-Outs" solid brass molds, weighty and impressive. Lot comprises molds of the following characters: Clever Mr. Ketchup; Hotshot Manny Mustard; Beatrice Bread Slice; Bad Guy Bill Beercan; Conrad C. Cup; Bob Dill the Singing Pickle; Solly Salt; Sneezy Pete Pepper Shaker; Sid Spoon; Dick Tater; Ed Egg & Brother; Sammy Saucer. These 3D magnets should not be confused with the flat Kitchen Kut-Out magnets produced more recently by Dark Horse.

Only 40 sets of magnets were produced before the project was abandoned, placing them among the rarest Crumb merchandise items, and these molds are the only ones made. Mr. West collaborated with Denis Kitchen and R. Crumb in the making of these molds.

A statement from the producer of the molds and magnets:

"My name is Ned West and in 1996 I was working for the Von Senden Company in Pittsburgh Pa developing logo merchandise for both promo and retail. I had been working with Denis Kitchen and his brother Jim on various product development for their famed underground publishing house, Kitchen Sink Press when they approached me with a New Project to produce for Robert Crumb. We were to create magnets using the iconic 2 page spread Kitchen Kut-outs Art from Zap #1. I represented Magna Art Industries Inc. from Edwardsville Illinois who created wonderful 3D molded magnets and I sent the Camera Ready Art off to them to get prototypes in the works. The 1st Set of Magnets landed and they were reviewed by Denis and Jim as well as Robert Crumb himself. We headed to a revisions stage and these Prototypes were Approved. It was decided that approx. 40 Sets were to be manufactured which would be sent to Retailers to Review and place orders. The 40 sets arrived and they looked amazing. These were sent out to Retailers and the orders started coming in! Unfortunately at this point, Crumb decided that he might like to make some additional changes and the project was placed on the back burner and unfortunately was never restarted. After sometime I requested that the original solid brass molds be sent to me in case we ever got the project off the ground again. That never happened and now the original Molds as well as the original documentation from the project are available for one lucky collector."
