Title: Signed Ukiyo-e Japanese Woodblock Print Utagawa Kunisada 1850s
Description: This is a Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III, published by Minatoya Kohei. Kunisada is one of the most prominent print artists of the mid-nineteenth century! It is likely from the 1850s and part of a diptych or triptych. The print shows a woman in formal kimono tying a cloth around her waist white a man walks towards her. There are beautiful white cherry blossoms over their heads. The print is signs and stamped in the lower left corner.
Signed: lower left side Toyokuni. To the right of artist sig is publisher sig, Minatoya Kohei. Above that are two censor and date seals.
Circa: 1850s
Dimensions: 14.5x9.875 inches
Condition: Some toning on paper, no creases, insect damage, foxing, etc. Only a small tear on the lower right corner and tiny folds in the other corners.
Provenance: From the estate of a local retiree, whose grandfather collected Ukiyo-e prints throughout the 1930s.
