JOHN HERSCHEL GLENN, JR (1921-2016). United States Marine Corps Aviator, Engineer, Astronaut, Businessman, and Politician, First American to Orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962, Served from 1974 to 1999 as a Democratic United States Senator from Ohio, in 1998, flew into space again at age 77.
Signed, "John Glenn", Color First Day Cover measuring 6.5" x 3.75", date stamped "Cape Canaveral FLA. Feb 20 1962 3:30 PM", Choice Near Mint. The signature is written in bold black in the address area. The colorful left side vignette imprint reads: "Honoring Project Mercury Astronaut Lt. Col. John H. Glenn U.S. Orbital Flight Feb. 20, 1962". Nicely tied with a 4-cent "Project Mercury" Commemorative U.S. Postage Stamp.
