Description
Title: Utagawa Kuniyoshi 1840s Woodblock Print Ukiyo-e Woman and Child
Description: This is an antique woodblock print of ukiyo-e from 1843-1846. The artist for this print is Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the great masters of the art! This piece shows a woman and child hiding from warriors, who are lurking just outside the doorway. There are game pieces and food platters on the ground in front of them. We believe this piece is likely a scene from a historical legend. Published by Kiya Sojiro. The characters in the print each have a cartouche near them which likely tell the viewer who they are.
Signed: Kuniyoshi ga (art by Kuniyoshi) in red cartouche on lower right side of paper. Hama Yahei nanushi censor seal to the top right of the artist signature. Publisher seal to the left of the cartouche, Kiya Sojiro.
