Description
George Wesley Bellows (American, 1882-1925). “Benediction in Georgia” - 1916, lithograph, inscribed, possibly by the artist, to lower left margin “X (indistinguishable) proof” and lower right margin signed “Geo Bellows / J. B. B.” by the artist’s daughter Jean Bellows Booth. Catalog note: Many drawings and lithographs remained unsigned at the time of George Bellows’ death at age 43. Jean Bellows Booth signed many of these lifetime impressions of the original lithographs and drawings with the artist’s name followed by her initials (JBB). Provenance: Private Collection, Cashiers, NC. Approx. 27.75” x 31.5” (frame), 16.125” x 20” (image)
Condition
Slight toning to sheet. Minor vertical rippling. Area of soiling over lower left inscription and in lower margin. vertical edges of sheet folded under still allowing 2.25" of vertical margins.
