Alfred Bendiner (American 1899 - 1964), watercolor and marker on paper depicting a French streetscape (probably Strasbourg), the walls of buildings covered with political graffiti relating to America's execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg including a drawing of an electric chair and "Go Home U.S.A.," "Eisenhower Assassin," "Liberez Rosenbergs," and "Liberz Henri Martin." Signed and inscribed with what appears to be "Defense d'Afficher" (lower left), inscribed and dated 'Paris 1954' and with artist's initials (lower center), the mat backing inscribed in another hand with the names of various artworks in the current owner's collection, giving the title of the present work as "Go Home Yankee." Condition: unframed; with loss to mat throughout 16 x 22 3/4 inches sight; 23 3/4 27 7/8 inches mat size
