Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A lovely cast-copper axe head with a long narrow blade and a rounded butt end. A circular socketing hole is set through the center with four pointed tabs around the rim. The rounded edges of the blade suggest that this was a ceremonial piece perhaps for ritual or burial, rather than for warfare. A gorgeous green patina adorns the surface of the blade. Size: 4.25" L x .75" W x 2" H (10.8 cm x 1.9 cm x 5.1 cm)
