Description
Mid 19th century, 290 x 178 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
In the red-brown field, 33 large chuval güls are spaciously arranged in rows of three. Cruciform secondary devices decorated with four arrows, probably a variation of the erre gül, are placed between them. The white main border displays different designs in the vertical and horizontal bands: curled leaves and diagonal crosses in the vertical bands, and ashik güls alternating with small straight-armed crosses in the horizontal bands. The pile-woven elems are decorated with small flowering trees at the bottom and arrow forms at the top. – New overcasting along the sides, otherwise very well preserved.
RAGETH, JÜRG, Turkmenische Teppiche. Basel 2016, volume 1, no. 87 *** RIPPON BOSWELL, A 94, 17 November 2018, lot 130
