Description

Title: English Staffordshire Plate Woodland Design c 1920

Size: 9” (22.9 cm) diameter x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall.

Description: An elaborate transferware pattern of a bucolic country design with horse cart at a stream in front of a small village with country church. The transfer is a very dark blue. The cavetto is decorated with an elaborate swirling geometric design. The glaze has a small crackle. The ceramic plate is of a medium weight and has a slight foot. In the center of the base is a transfer that reads “WOODLAND”. This word is in the center of a flower petal border circle. Below this, is the manufacturers mark “W. Baker & Co. LTD” and “MADE IN ENGLAND” . MEASUREMENTS 9” (22.9 cm) diameter x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall. Weighs 13.4 oz (380 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The glazes are fresh with a slight crackle. There is wear on the foot as well as wear scratches on the central well and cavetto design. The wear does not obscure the design. There are slight stains on the back. A great looking plate to add to collection of transferware or use to decorate with shabby chic, post industrial, or English cottage.
