"A new and correct Map of the Coast of Africa", 1753. With Forts and Settlements
1p (two pages adhered together), measuring 21.5" x 16.25", [London], dated 1753. Engraving of the coast of Africa, "From Cape Blanco…to the Coast of Angola…With Explanatory Notes of All the Forts and Settlements belonging to the several European Powers". Printed for J. & P. Knapton as part of Mr. Postlethwayt's Universal Dictionary Trade of Commerce. R.W. Seale sculp. With an inset titled "A separate map of the Gold Coast upon a larger scale". Distances on the larger map are given in English and Portuguese leagues and Dutch miles. Distances on the inset map are given in English leagues and Dutch miles only. Large text section explaining map points. With flattened folds and edge toning. A few small tears at the edges. Areas of faint text and map ghosting from where it was folded and ink transferred. Very good.
