Rev. War 1777 Handwritten Oath of Allegiance for Virginia Captain William Payne
Manuscript Document Signed, "Crispin Shelton", 1 p., August 9, 1777, Pittsylvania, 8.25" x 2.5". Strong vibrant ink. Minor toning, folds, uneven edges, else near Fine.
The document, in full, "Pittsylvania to wit, I do hereby certify that William Payne hath taken and subscribed the oath of allegiance and fidelity as directed by and act of General Assembly intitled (sic) an act to oblige the free male inhabitants of the state above a certain age to give assurance of allegiance to the same and for other purposes".
