1778 Revolutionary War Document 1/2 Pay for Wounded Soldier
Single page document signed, 8.375" x 13". Dated and signed with several dates: May 23, 1778, June 23, 1778 and October 9, 1788. Expected folds, else very good. Shown in part below:
"To half pay 5 months at 20... £ 5.0.0 / Middletown May 23, 1778
Received the above sum by orders ..
Hartford June 23, 1778
Seth Johnson made oath that the above .. is just and true and that he was unable to do any business of any consequence during the time charged above..."
This 1778 Revolutionary War Document outlines soldier Seth Johnson's request for 1/2 pay after he was disabled by his wounds. He later received this payment. This was a practice leftover from the British army.
