Title: c.1828 Needlework Sampler from Antrim, NH by 14 year old Jane Temple

Provenance/Additional Info: Jane Temple. Needlework Sampler. Antrim, NH c. 1828 This rare sampler featuring an eagle at the top was worked by Jane Temple at age 14. She included a charming house-scape at the bottom, flowering vine borders, alphabets, numerals, and the most popular verse found on samplers. Jane, born April 8, 1814, was the oldest of seven children born to Zenas Temple (1788-1871) and Margaret Jameson (1787-1870). She was a dress maker living with her parents in Antrim, NH until her death on November 11, 1861 at age 47. Jane’s father’s occupation is listed as a farmer. The 1850 census finds Jane age 36 and her next two younger sisters ages 34 and 33 all living with their parents. Silk on linen; 17 1/2" x 22" framed.
