A Lacquered Tulku Hat, The hat with a wide flat brim, surmounted with a lacquered diamond-shaped crown apex resting on a layered base supported by a square lotus pedestal, each facet of the crown apex painted with a flaming 'Triratna' (the three-jewel medallion), the upper surfaces decorated with coral, turquoise, red and yellow beads, the underside of the brim lacquered and painted the Eight Buddhist Symbols. Tibet, Early 20th Century, Height: 7 1/4 inches (8.4 cm) [Overall wear and soiling, losses to lacquer paint. This condition report states major condition issues only.] Note:These hats were typically made for reincarnated lamas and were worn outdoors. 'Tulku' is a Tibetan word referring to a high-ranking lama who has the power to choose his (or her) manner of rebirth.
