Description
A vintage "Old Mexico" Tlaquepaque Art Pottery Mug produced for the tourist trade in the 1950's. 4 3/4 in. tall x 3 3/4 in. wide (not including handle), made in the "Fantasia" style, depicting a Mexican woman walking on a dirt road with various local flora along the either side, impressed mark "Tlaquepaque Mexico" on base, very good condition overall. Tlaquepaque pottery pieces were produced for the tourist trade that started coming into the Guadalajara area in the 1920 - 1930's. A thriving pottery trade developed over the ensuing decades as these pieces became sought by the increasing tourist traffic and collectors. The pottery was also sold in finer large department store chains in the United States. It continues to have a strong collector base.
