Description
A Chinese jade carving of Amitabha Buddha dating from the Ming dynasty or earlier. He sits in dhyanasana on a double lotus pedestal with his hands in his lap holding a bowl. There is a mandorla or torana behind him.
Dimensions are: 2 inches tall X 1 1/4 inches wide, 5.1 cm X 3.2 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is chipping throughout.
Provenance: From a private New York City collection. Purchased from the Baltimore, Maryland Antique Show. Similar pieces have been sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong on May 30, 2019, as lot 636, and an example with a box was sold at Sotheby's New York on September 17, 2016, as lot 1086.
