A HIGH QUALITY copper plate etching with fine detail was printed in 1891.
Genuine antique, not a modern reprint.
In the late 1880?’s the German Print Museum started to make new plates from their best Classical Art collection under the direction of Dr Friedrich Lippmann and issue etchings and engravings from these plates for Fine Art Libraries worldwide.
The original etching 'Der Tod der Maria' was in the Koniglichen Museum in Berlin, from this, Lippmann?’s produced this copy in 1891
Authenticity? This copy, previously owned the famous Edinburgh Art Library, with their embossed stamp, -see picture - and it is laid to the original publishers backing sheet.
Approximate visible image size 16.00 x 11.50 ins, sheet 21 x 14ins
The sheet is uneven and would benefit from a binding.
