Description
A FOUR PIECE VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER TEA/COFFEE SET, BY HENRY WIGFULL, HALLMARKED, SHEFFIELD, 1856, in the Rococo Revival taste and each with a rim of leafy scrolls, above a short neck and sides with vertical panels of repoussé blossoming clusters with one side centering a blank cartouche, the coffeepot flanked by an ear form hollowware handle mounted with an acanthus detailed thumbpiece, opposite a spout with trailing flowering vine reversing to a large leafy bloom, surmounted by a hinged lid centering a realistically detailed flower finial and raised on scrolling acanthus and lion's paw form feet, height: 9", together with a matching hinge lidded teapot, and cream pitcher with a two-handled waste bowl, each hallmarked with Sheffield crown, date letter N (1856), lion passant (sterling silver), and silversmith's stamp "HN / & Co," (Henry Wigfull & Co), total approximate weight: 87.5 troy oz. Provenance: Lifetime Collection from Fredericksburg, Texas.
Condition
Each in good condition with normal light wear, some polish residue in crevices and a few with worn hallmarks. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
