Description
Tekke chuval, 6-maida guls, Turkmenistan, mid-19th c. Influenced by the Salor with their early maida-gul chuval designs, the Tekke wove similar patterns using six large turreted guls as this one. Most of the these are very intricately woven with excellent materials and this example is exceptional. Leigh Marsh was attracted to the ring-tree motif and this is dramatically present in the large elem at the bottom. Exhibited: "Masterpieces of Turkmen Weaving," Arthur Ross Gallery, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, 2003. Size: 3'9'' x 2'4'' (114 x 71 cm). Weight: 3 lbs. Material: wool pile, wool warp, wool weft.
