Item Details
Description
Sam Gilliam (American, born 1933), Lattice Memory

monotype, intaglio lithograph on collage-like surface (a unique work), 1999, ink signed and dated, published by Vermillion Editions Ltd., the full sheet, unframed.
Sheet size 14 x 11 1/4 in.
Sam Gilliam is best known for his Color Field paintings, collages, and graphics, and he is a major figure in the Washington Color School. Gilliam often modifies traditional art-making surfaces, painting on unstretched canvas that he instead drapes for display, or creating a monotype over a collage-like base to provide more depth than a single sheet, as seen in the work offered here.

Gilliam's artwork has been the subject of many solo exhibitions at venues such as The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Kunstmuseum, Basel; Whitney Museum of American Art, Philip Morris Branch, New York; The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and others.
Purchased directly from the publisher.
