1979 Chevrolet Caballista Corvette - VIN: 1Z8749S411153 - Offered Without Reserve - 1 of 50 built from 1977-1982 | 1 of only 2 built with an L82 matching numbers engine | Power steering, power brakes, and heat/air-conditioningThe old saying, “If you dream it, you can build it”, is quite often said but rarely lived out. Les Dunham said just that, but actually went through with his dream and built this 1979 Caballista Corvette being offered here. Dunham made a living off customizing cars in ways people couldn’t back in the ‘70s and ‘80s. He used those skills to create the “Corvorado” that was used for the James Bond film “Live and Let Die” as well as the car in the movie “Superfly”. After his Hollywood success, Les Dunham and his company, the Dunham Coach Motor Company, in Boonton, New Jersey began producing a limited number of custom C3 Corvettes from 1977 to 1982. The Caballista Corvette was a unique “pimped” out ride that seamlessly combined the flare and beauty of Cadillacs and Corvettes of the day. Dunham wanted the car to be more than just its looks, so he made the decision to only produce 50 of these vehicles, making them a collectible rarity, indeed. However, this Caballista is rarer than most, as it is one of four to come with a four-speed manual transmission, one of only two with an L82 matching numbers engine, and one of 10 built with the sharp black and silver paint scheme that conveys both sport and elegance.

This hand-fabricated car sits on a C3 Corvette chasis and is outfitted with body parts, pieces, and cues from Cadillacs of the era. Under the hood is an L82 V-8 engine that packs a serious punch delivering a thrilling ride when combined with the four-speed manual transmission. The car comes equipped with many conveniences that add to the overall driving experience, like power steering, power disc brakes, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power windows, heat and air-conditioning, and an AM/FM cassette. The interior features two comfortable black oyster leather seats with matching black carpet and floor mats. The middle dash is done in a nicely offsetting woodgrain and houses the four-speed manual gearbox, stereo, climate control buttons, as well as five separate gauges. The dashboard matches the middle console, and the odometer reads just 31,055 miles.

These cars are rarely seen or talked about today, mainly due to the low number produced. Also, many of these Caballistas, when first built, were exported to Arab countries for sale. Hard to find for sale, especially with low miles and in great condition; don’t let this rare opportunity own a seldom seen collectible drive away.
