Description
Walter Joseph Biggs (Virginia, 1886-1968); mixed media large grisaille drawing on board signed "W Biggs '31" with printing notations on upper margin including title, "The Meanest Man in the World", #18 page 17, second color range, etc. Height 34 inches (86.5 cm.) X width 26 1/4 inches (66.5 cm.). NOTE: Originally a 1920 comedy play by Augustin MacHugh for George M Cohan made into a silent film in 1923 with Bert Lytell & Blanch Sweet and published as a book circa 1928 in various illustrated editions. Jack Benny stared in a 1943 film version for 20th Century Fox.
