Plains Beaded Hide Moccasins
fourth quarter 19th century
lot of two, includes:
pair of moccasins sinew-sewn with high cuffs; collection number inked on sole; length 9 3/4 inches
AND
pair of moccasins sinew-sewn with vamps beaded in cobalt, red, yellow, and light blue; collection number inked on sole; length 10 inches
From the Collection of David G. Beckwith
According to consignor, these were collected by Sisters of St. Francis who taught in the southwest. They sent these moccasins back to the motherhouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The pair was eventually sold through Trade Winds Auctions, Ohio in 1987 and featured on the cover of the auction catalogue.
