Description
Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. An exquisite and choice glazed steatite scarab set into a modern 14kt gold stick pen - possibly a hat pen. The scarab is exceedingly well done featuring a large central goose holding a nefer - combination of heart and windpipes - along with a glyph representing a board-game. The meaning is unclear but was certainly a charm representing some form of posterity or good luck. Beetle side shows clear features. Stick pin made of 14kt gold. Size: 3.125" L x .5" W (7.9 cm x 1.3 cm); 3.5" H (8.9 cm) on included custom stand.
