PENNSYLVANIA PAINT-DECORATED FOLK-ART CARVED WOODEN WALL BOXES, LOT OF TWO, comprising an example with cut-out stylized arrow top and hanging hole, fitted with two match holders over a shelf with a notched center, slanted open pocket base with scalloped rim, paint decorated in a dark maroon ground with teal blue dot decoration; and a diminutive example with cut-out tombstone top and base, top with a hanging hole over a lifting slant-lid box, painted in a dark brownish-red overall. Each of nailed construction. Match holder: Berks County, PA. 19th century. 11 1/4" HOA, 10 1/8" WOA, and 8 1/8" HOA, 3 3/8" W.
Very good overall condition with expected wear and minor paint losses.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
