Description
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND DECORATED STONEWARE PITCHER, salt-glazed, "1" gallon capacity mark, ovoid form with beaded neck, incised ring to neck and shoulder, and strap handle. Brushed cobalt decoration featuring eight three-petal flowers and leaves on two stems to front with feathers flanking spout, additional cobalt around lower handle terminal. Probably the pottery of Peter Herrmann (1825-1901). Circa 1870. 10 3/8" H, 5 3/8" D rim.
Mostly undamaged with minor flake to foot edge. Having some manufacturing flaws including kiln kisses to front, as made.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.
