Marvelous depiction of Sacramento in the 1850's, considered the greatest of Gold Rush bird's-eye views of the city, extremely rare. The sprawling capital of California is seen from above the Sacramento River with waterfront area, ships, steamships, barges, etc. in foreground. Marginal views include local businesses, churches, public buildings, hotels, theaters, and industry, with a view of Sutter's Fort in 1846 and Sacramento in 1849. OCLC locates no copies other than photocopies or digital versions, but Reps 209 places copies at the Bancroft Library, the California Historical Society, the California State Library, and the Society of California Pioneers.
