Description
One of the pioneering American underwater movie camera housings from the FENJOHN company. This housing was designed for a Bell & Howell 16mm motion picture camera and was listed at $1,990 in the 1956 FENJOHN catalog. Stan Waterman and several other early underwater cameramen of the period used this housing to shoot some of the earliest scuba diving films. The housing is made of cast aluminum. The front and back of the housing are sealed with O-rings and two latches. The battery pack at the base of the housing is sealed in the same manner. The 1956 FENJOHN catalog stated that the housing had been successfully used by the navies of two countries and various scientific institutions. The glass is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The company label is still attached to the front port and the housing still has its original orange paint finish.
