Description
Very impressive and one of a kind ships hull plaque! This piece of solid brass was mounted inside the USS Sonoma ATA-175, aka Hull 342 by the Levingston Shipbuilding Company in 1944. This company, located in Orange, Texas, was the largest tug shipbuilder during World War 2. The USS Sonoma served from 1944 till 1946. The tug was put into inactive reserve until the mid-1970s when it was renamed Deka Epta. The boat was eventually sold for scrap in 1989. This heavy plaque was removed from the ship before final scrapping. Plaque measures approximately 19.75 inches wide, 12.25 inches tall and .375 inch thick with a weight of 17 pounds! There is some wonderful additional information about the USS Sonoma on the Internet.
