Napoleon Bonaparte & Empress Josephine
A pair of porcelain plaques in original inserts set in a brown velvet frame; the Napoleon plaque signed and dated lower right, "J. Hunt. 1853"; the Empress plaque signed, "J.M. Hunt / d'apres --bay" with red inscription on verso; likely done by the mother, Jane Maria Leavitt Hunt (1801-1877), or sister, Jane Maria Hunt (1822-1907), of Richard Morris Hunt and William Morris Hunt

Provenance: Descent through the family of Richard M. Hunt (1827-1895)
A note affixed to the verso of Napoleon's portrait reads, "'The Comte de ----ow was a cousin of the Empress Josephine + had in his possession beautiful portraits of her + Napoleon, painted on Sevres porcelain, which they had given to him. He sent hem to Jane, who made faithful copies of them when she was studying at the royal manufactory of Sevres. Jane willed them to me' / C.C.H.H."
