Description
A fun, whimsical child’s biscuit jar from the late 19th century made by the Staffordshire firm of Charles Allerton & Sons. The small low fired ceramic octagonal child’s biscuit jar depicts little Mae at her door step with her pet cat, dog, and birds around her. The jar has a matching lid. The decoration is a blue transfer pattern and has misses, fuzziness and flows.A mark on the jar base reads No 106791 Y No 780 ENGLAND and LABSGN in a circle. It’s hard to read.MEASUREMENTS3 ¾” (9.5 cm) wide x 2 ¾ ” (7.0 cm) diameter x 4 ½” (11.4 cm) tall. Weighs 8.1 oz (230g)CONDITIONThere are manufacture flaws to the ceramic, including some cuts on the unglazed foot and a cut on the glazed base. There are kiln flaws such as black spots and an iron spot. There is a tiny chip on the inner flange of the mouth. The jar is very shiny and bright for the age.A great piece to collect.
