Description
A Victorian silver plate syrup pitcher in the shape of a barrel. It still has some silver and has polished up with some shine. The pitcher was made from a heavy metal molded in the shape of a barrel and then silver-plated. The spout, handle, and lid have etched florid designs. There is a blank cartouche below the spout, where a monogram would have been etched. The lid has a pin hinge and rests on a ball on the handle when opened. The base is flat and rests flat on a surface.A makers mark in the center of the base reads SIMPSON HALL MILLER & CO. QUADRUPLEPLATE . The base also has numbers 6 and 7 stamped in in.MEASUREMENTS5 ¼” (13.3 cm) tall x 5” (12.7 cm) long x 3” (7.6 cm) wide. Weighs 12. 0 oz (340 g)CONDITIONThere are no breaks, cracks, or dents. It does shine up fairly well, but much of the silver has worn off. There are scratches in the walls of the interior.A small usable piece for the breakfast table. I love the barrel like design.ITEM IDS-2692STYLEVictorianAGELate 19th CenturyCOLORSilverTYPEHollowareORIGINUnited States • AmericanPURPOSEPitchers, Ewers, TablewareITEM TYPEAntique
