Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. An impressive ensemble of 5 hand-built pottery artifacts; 1 Colima flute, 2 Costa Rican flutes, and 2 Costa Rican jars. The Colima flute displays a serpentine form with a lengthy, cylindrical body, annular eyes, and an applied clay crest. Alternatively, the pair of Costa Rican flutes exhibit avian forms, each with a bulbous body, an extended, conical tail that serves as the mouthpiece, tucked wings, and a large head. Also zoomorphic, the Costa Rican jars showcase the forms of a bird and a feline. The larger jar of the 2 resembles an owl with a bulbous body, petite wings, and a sizeable head, all sitting upon pointed feet and balanced in the back by a rectangular tail. The final artifact, the petite jar, boasts a spherical body and annular rim that curves inward over a deep basin, all sitting upon a discoid, concave foot. Size (of Colima flute): 9" L x 1" W (22.9 cm x 2.5 cm); Size (of largest jar): 3" L x 4" H (7.6 cm x 10.2 cm)

All flutes still functional. Colima flutes restored from at least 2 pieces with restoration over break lines and minor chips to foot end. Resurfacing, nicks, abrasions, and stable stress fissures to body redware Costa Rican flute. Blackware Costa Rican flute repaired from several pieces with restorations over break lines, as well as some light abrasions. Both jars repaired from several pieces with break lines visible, a few minor areas of restoration, and expected nicks and chips throughout. Otherwise, all are very nice with lovely earthen deposits.
