M.C. Escher (Dutch, 1898-1972)

Encounter, 1944, edition of 50 (Bool et al., 331). Signed and numbered "MCEscher No 14/50 IV" in pencil l.l., initialed and dated within the matrix. Lithograph on paper with partial "Holland" and figural watermarks, image size 13 3/8 x 18 1/4 in. (33.8 x 46.3 cm), framed.
Condition: Margins over 1 1/2 inches, gently light struck, minor creasing near corner u.l., four 1inch pieces of Scotch or similar tape to edges, white cloth hinges near upper corners on the reverse.

Condition: The sheet measures 17 x 21 3/4 inches. The area within the mat opening is gentle toned, and the sheet is subtly rippled.
