A FINE LACQUER SUZURIBAKO DEPICTING CRANES
Japan, first half of 20th century, Showa era (1926-1989)
Of rectangular form with canted edges, finely decorated in gold and red with two cranes on the cover and a flower motif inside. The interior of the box fitted with a suzuri (inkstone) and a metal suiteki (waterdropper) with fine details of leaves and flowers.
SIZE 24.5 cm x 11.5 cm x 5 cm
Condition: Good condition with some flaking and nicks, associated losses to the lacquer, particularly on the cover, the edges, and the underside.
Provenance: Hungarian private collection.
