Japanese Wood, Lacquer, Mixed Metal and Enamel Box, depicting Momotaro, the Peach Boy. The figured Elmwood (?) box decorated to the top with the figure of the boy Momotaro in enameled mixed metal, the figure carrying a pheasant and a dog on his back, confronting the diminished Chief of the Devils, in takamaki-e lacquer with abalone inlay, on the natural wood box form, with an autumn tree. Provenance: The Kura, Kyoto, JP
Dimensions: 4 x 7 x 9 in.
Condition: Some loss to enamel over time, light surface scuffs, abrasions, accretions to box exterior, otherwise in good condition.
