Description
Near East, Holy Land, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A fabulous ensemble of 5 pottery vessels boasting hues of red, beige, and black, all with flared spouts and slender handles. The first 2 exhibit piriform bodies with bifurcated handles, though one is blackware and presents a wide hip, flat base, and trefoil spout and the other is redware with a ring-form base and circular spout. The third example displays a spherical body, lengthy, narrow neck, and trefoil spout, all sitting upon an applied, circular foot. Painted a creamy shade of beige, the fourth vessel features a planar base and impressively thin walls that curve slightly inward to a brief neck and then outward to an annular, rolled rim. The last piece showcases a cylindrical body with a flat shoulder, attenuated neck, and rolled circular rim, all supported by a rounded yet stable base. Size (of largest): 4.125" in diameter x 7.125" H (10.5 cm x 18.1 cm)
