The first of these carved wooden figures is a 14" H Black Forest-type figure of a man smoking a pipe; his umbrella shaft has been broken off and there is a small chip off the rim of his hat. Figure is signed "Nelson" or something similar with other illegible markings on the bottom. The second figure, unpainted, measures approx. 16"H and was found in Lancaster County, PA. The third figure is a later comical hand-painted carving of a man chewing on dried grass on a polished wooden base.
