Description
Southeast Asia, Borneo, Ngaju Dayak, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden shaman's charm depicting a standing clothed figure detailed with feet placed squarely on the ground, arms held to sides, minimalist facial features, and a stylized coiffure. The charm has developed a beautiful, rich patina in hues of brown and dark orange. Size: 0.75" W x 4.1" H (1.9 cm x 10.4 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Hawaii USA collection; ex-private collection of Ami Brown. Mr. Brown was the owner of the Coca Cola franchise in Israel and amassed a huge and very fine collection of Indonesian Kris's as well as other ethnographic and tribal arts. His collection numbered more than 3000 pieces with many on display during his life in the Ein Harod Museum of Art.
