This lot consists of a watercolor illustration on paper, framed under glass, done in the modern style of Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954). "Frida Kahlo" is hand painted at top right. This beautifully detailed image portrays the artist herself, adorned with ornate earrings and wearing an outfit of regal jewel tones. A beautiful addition to any modern art collectors' gallery. This framed piece measures approximately 18.75" x 14.75".

Reverse side of piece features an affixed paper label which reads, "Julien Levy Gallery. 602 Madison Avenue, New York. Paintings -- Photographs -- Drawings." The label features the typewritten inscription, "Frida Kahlo. Autorretrato."

Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954) is well known for her self-portraits, which incorporate color and surrealism in a way that is all her own. Her artwork is recognizable for its splendorous color and naive stylization, but holds a depth and a pain that many viewers can truly connect with. Though largely confined in life by her physical ailments, Frida Kahlo was prolific, politically active, and a deeply passionate individual.
