Description: This book is a detailed account of J. B. Jones' experience as a clerk in the war department of the Confederate States Government. Circa 1863 (deduced from complete date listed on page 63), this is a fascinating window into daily life during America's Civil War up through the author's surprise and reaction to President Lincoln's assassination in April, 1885. Hardcover. Facsimile copy, reprinted in 1982 from the 1866 first edition. Dark navy blue cloth binding. Illustrated front cover with civil war scene embossment and gilt lettering. Raised bands on spine with star embossment and gilt lettering. Marbled end pages in blue, red and gold color themes. Slight rubbing. Gilt edges, ever so slightly scratched. Clean pages with no creasing and no marginalia. Very occasional foxing on several pages. Red, silk ribbon bookmark. Volume II only. 480 pp. Full refund if not satisfied.
