edited by J. van Horne, engraved additional pictorial title with vignettes of physicians at work including trepanning and blood-letting, 4 engraved plates including 2 of the heart and folding one of medical tools, the other bound upside down, engraved title shaved at fore-edge, lightly browned, some water-staining affecting some plates, old ink inscription to title, ex-library copy with ink stamp on verso of title and label on front pastedown, contemporary vellum, yapp edges, rubbed and soiled, splits to upper joint, [G & M 802.1; Wellcome II p.209], 8vo Leiden, Daniel & Abraham à Gaasbeeck, 1660.

***First edition of Botallo's collected works including his writings on the heart, giving his name to Botallo's duct, Botallo's foramen and Botallo's ligament. He was a strong advocate for blood letting and trepanning, and published a pioneering work on the treatment of gunshot wounds..
