Important account of the cartographic accomplishments of Eusebio Francisco Kino, the Jesuit missionary who explored Pimeria Alta (northern Sonora and southern Arizona) and founded several missions in the region. His map of Baja California, "Passage par terre a la Californie," published in Paris in 1705, is the earliest extant depiction of the Gila River, the Colorado River, and southern Arizona, based on first-hand observation. Rubber stamp of Dwight W. Taylor on front pastedown.
