Description
Three Similarly Decorated Engine-turned and Slip-decorated Pearlware Table Items, pint mug marked "WOOD & CALDWELL" (1790-1818), c. 1800, the other pieces attributed to Wood & Caldwell, a pitcher, pint mug, and half-pint mug, each with brown- and black-filled engine-turned geometric decoration, blue slip banding, and brown slip-filled rouletting, applied strap handles with bold foliate terminals, ht. to 6 1/2 in.
Literature: The pint mug is illustrated and discussed in Ceramics in America, volume 4 (2004), and in Jonathan Rickard, Mocha and Related Dipped Wares, 1770-1939, 2006, p. 13. All three are to be illustrated in the 2021 volume of Ceramics in America, along with other examples of Wood & Caldwell products.
