Chinese Ming Dynasty period, Red Dragons motif porcelain double gourd vase. Potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, suspending a short cylindrical neck, with a straight opening lip, raised on slightly short splayed foot base and slighty concave. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the ruby red fine color, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through scrolling interlocking ruyi in red color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Red is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck, corresponding with fire, symbolizes good fortune and joy. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The under-base bears a reign mark, a vertical six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made in The Years of Wanli Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
